Degree Show Work

My Degree Show Piece. A Sculpture of a Wooly Mammoth with accompanying Video performance

3rd year Degree work

The frame is based on light up bill boards, particularly referencing large scale city scape imagery from films like Blade Runner, i wanted to create a consumerist attitude towards the 'Shaman' much like how Marcus Coates adapts the role of the shaman for a condemned council estate building.

These are sculptures called Bear and Wolf, by taking them from being entirely just animal shaped and adding 'scaffold' i feel they take on new totemic roles as they become tamed for our use as prizes or sacrifices.

Free For Arts Festival.

I worked on a collaborative installation this september with Lois Macdonald for the Free for Arts Festival that she had organised and slaved over. We had this slightly strange space to work in within the AMC cinema lobby in Manchester's Great Northern. We knew that we wanted to create something sculptural, something to fill this glass case and that would be accessible as a piece of fantasy or escapism. Animal forms and habits have always informed my work performatively and this time the installation took them on as well. Me and Lois both liked the idea of habitation and hibernation and so we decided to place these ambiguous animal/human characters in their own hibernation caves, we left it open for interpretation so people will think heavily about the narrative with little prompting. I think this is the first instance of my work involving narrative, a theme that im beginning to become more engaged with.
